Bringing To Life

As I don't have work this morning, I decided to use my time wisely and am doing some china painting. It's been so long since I've painted a doll, I think I've forgotten how!! Once I paint the eyes, the doll really comes to life!

The majority of my dolls are china painted. Sometimes I acrylic paint them, particularly the character dolls and sometimes I do both on one doll. It takes me about a week to do china paint as I do anywhere from 5 to 7 layers and I fire once a day.

BTW, one of the presents I received for Christmas was a camcorder! My plan is to make short mini tutorials. No, painting won't be one of them, LOL, as it would take me FOREVER with editing. I can't tell you how many tries it takes me to paint the eyes!!

I'm trying to think of new ideas for tutorials. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

The Chandelier Is Up!

Well, it only took a little over a week, but it's up! I originally wanted it more in the corner of the room over my worktable but due to location of outlets, ability to get to corner, etc etc etc it's in the center of the room! I'm a happy camper!

NOW the next thing is window covering. I have a couple of ideas. Oh, Karyn, how I wish you lived closer as I sure could use your help!!

Well, today is part two of the root canal but this time I'm going to grin and bear it!

And as far as creating these last couple of days, best laid plans, LOL I decided to go start going through my fabric/trim stash and putting up the excess on etsy! I discovered things I had forgotten and this often gets me inspired to create! And of course inspiration always hits when it's back to WORK!! Ah, such is life!

Whatever you do today, fit in something you love to do!

Silver Sunday

Welcome to Silver Sunday Blog Party hosted by Gypsy Fish! What a great way to start off the New Year! I was missing Vintage Black Friday but now we have Silver Sunday, whoo-hoo!

When my mother passed away I was given some of her silver/turquoise jewelry but I gave some of it to my grand-nieces and grand-nephew and then some of it was stolen, but I do have some silver jewelry that my dad brought me back from Portugal back in the 90s, this cross necklace and bracelet. I don't wear silver much but when I pulled the bracelet out to photograph it for Silver Sunday I have started to wear it again! It really is very pretty! The second picture shows the detail of the bracelet.

This salt shaker with the silver lid was given to me by my niece Jill, gosh, 20 years ago or more.

These two silver medallions are my brother's. I don't know how I ended up with a lot of his things, LOL These medallions have Pope Pius XII on the reverse side. You can see it in the first photo.

Please visit Gypsy Fish to see a list of the other participants and be sure and visit her Etsy store! I love her altered bottles!

Shopping Finds

Ah, what better way to spend New Year's Day and my first post of 2010 than to share with you my latest finds.

The next room to get a makeover is our kitchen, changing the motiff from apples to chefs. The cabinet refinishing has to take a backseat due to my root canal, yep, sad, but true, LOL, it's MORE than the cabinet refinishing!!

The walls need to be painted and neither one of us is in the mood to paint and hubby said no RED walls. Well, he's going on a business trip in April and when he comes home one of the walls may very well be red, LOL! Although I just mentioned it to him again and he didn't say, NO, see it's a good time to ask him, he's watching football! **wink**

The other day we went to Pier 1. I never go there. Don't know why, I like the store, but I'm glad we did! I found these cannisters for $6 each! And to my surprise hubby really liked them!

Then yesterday I went to the Cancer Society Disovery Shop and look what I found, this utensil holder, although Richard said, hey, that's good for holding wine. Okay, that works too!! It matches the shelf I bought at Kohl's awhile back perfectly!

And I found the border I want to order which goes well with the clock that I gave a makeover to!

And on my shopping spree yesterday I found these adorable cloches! Many years ago I broke the dome for the Scarlett figurine and now I can display her again! I'm going back as they have several other ones that once I got home I found the perfect use for! Isn't that always the way!!

And of course no shopping trip is complete without a stop at Home Goods!! I couldn't resist these stackable boxes!

Well, today is football day and I think I'll do some creating, perhaps a doll! What a great way to spend my NY's day! I hope you're enjoying your day!! Happy New Year!

2nd Floor -- Lingerie . . .

Well actually it's a parfumerie and hat shop.

It still needs some tweaking (is a project ever completed!?!) but here it is! I'm having a difficult time getting a sharp photo as I can't use the tripod. I have to stand on a chair to get the picture :)

The round settee I made years. I may change the pink fringe on the bottom so it goes better in the room . . .

I also want to thank you all for "helping" me through my dread of getting the root canal. The unknown is always scary. They gave me an oral sedation. I remember telling Richard I'm seeing double and my next memories are very fleeting. I did feel TWO needles, I remember them putting me in a wheelchair when I was done. I remember telling Richard I wanted a chocolate milkshake and french fries but don't remember drinking/eating and then I slept for the better part of the day.

No pain in my tooth BUT I have a blister on my lip and it really hurts. Next Tuesday I get the crown done. More needles but this one I can handle. We split the procedure between 2009/2010 to cut down the out of pocket expenses.

HELP!

This is where I'll be this morning . . . . having a root canal! I am so NOT looking forward to this. I'll be out for the better part of the day as they're giving me an IV sedation! Yep, I'm a wus!!
